We came before 12:00 . Recommend. Very nice English fluent receptionist told us “ there may be no water in shower” ( same as below review ) although we did. Also told us foreigners with tattoos ok “if you come early when it’s not crowded”
Building very old and run down and restaurant “only for hotel guests” but as repeated in below reviews - the view is worth it.
700YEN/person
Onsen with nice view.
But the water in the shower area is way to weak and the shampoo made my hair very dry. And the onsen pool is a bit small. If the pool is too crowded, it takes some to wait outside.
Our tour arranged us to go onsen there for 2 nights. Yesterday it was great. Today no incoming hot water in the female outdoor onsen therefore the water was not hot. On the other hand, the water was too hot in the male outdoor onsen that no one could get in. At the reception, the manageress pointed to a male staff and said he checks the water temperature for onsen every 30 mins. I doubted how a man can check the female one. Then she went to check and did not come out again before our tour left. Everyone was very disappointed.
Staffs are polite and there was only me in the Onsen when I visit there in late September.
Although it’s about 1 km from Hakuba Station, the onsen is located top of a gradual slope, 15-20 mins from the station. The walk there is pleasant walk and surrounded by nature.
The onsen itself is simple- one 内湯 and one 露天風呂、the former is relatively small, for about 3-4 people at most. There was no one while I was there on a Friday afternoon so I had the whole 露天風呂 to myself! There is also a sauna but it wasn’t operating due to covid. The water was about 41° so I didn’t stay too long.
Entry is ¥800 including ¥100 for the locker which will be refunded to you after your visit. Towels are available for rent/purchase, as well as onsen robe sets for rent. It is part of the Hakuba Highland Hotel so there is also a restaurant there. Opens daily 11:00-20:00.
15 mins walk from Hakuba station
The price is reasonable and you can enjoy the view on the way to the place.
Although there are only two Onsen but still you can enjoy outdoor onsen with amazing snow view.
(I would recommend bring own towel)
Beautiful view, large main bath indoors, small outdoors covered tub, another small outdoor tub in-ground but not operational during my December visit. Ultimately, an expensive and remote Onsen. Great if you have a car, or happen to be staying at the hotel. Loved it though.
No wifi and the shower is broken.
And need to wait for hot spring
